Running through the Sagebrush

Summer thinks its time has come already but Spring persists in her burst of wildflowers.

I ran about 5 or 6 miles along dirt Mulholland and the trails this morning. It was very hot. The yellow mustard blooms have passed their peak and the sagebrush is now taking the crown of blossoming glory. So many butterflies...

Ran 5 miles on Dirt Mulholland

The wildflowers were breathtaking! Too bad I didn't have my camera.

Ran 3 miles in the starlight last week. It was late when I got home but I had to run. No moon. I ran up Mulholland. I took a side road in the darkness thinking it would take me back to the suburbs but it was a dead end. It was interesting running through the thick trees where even the starlight was blotted out. Could not see a thing. More than once I heard rustling in the bushes. More than once I looked over my shoulder. Fun!

How do you run on an uneven dirt road in the dark without a light? You have to sense the road and just know where to step.

Ran 5 miles on Dirt Mulholland

...and walked on the beach in the evening. It was cold and windy. There were three kite-surfers skimming the waves - thrilling to watch. The ocean... good for the soul.

Ran 5 miles on Mulholland

Working day and night for days and nights with only a break to eat, sleep and shower (maybe) can be hard. At the start of the run I felt sluggish, felt bad. After a few miles I started feeling better and started looking at the great views and the snow on the mountains and breathed the crisp air. So good!

Walked with Arian on my back-

Walked today on the road around Triunfo Park with Arian on my back. I guess around 3 miles with 300 feet elevation.

Also ran around a mile on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Walked alone 2 miles on Monday while at work.

I miss many of the friends at work, particulary in kitchen. 3 out of the last 4 days, I was alone during lunch.

Take care,

Jayesh

Hiking in the Sierras last weekend

Mike, two of his friends and I hiked into the Mineral King Wilderness over the weekend. We probably walked about 12 miles but with about 7,500 feet elevation gain (per GPS), plus carrying packs for two nights camping, so it was tough! Truly spectacular vistas – highly recommended to all.

Century City hosted a great race through the streets, complete with Laker Girls and a "Battle of the Bands" afterwards where four bands competed for a $10K prize! I did not win anything but my team members both placed!

Ran for a mile or so (15 minutes) today. Walked 1.5 miles yesterday

My son is on the basketball team for his school and his practices forced him to wait some time afterschool until his practice starts. So we changed his schedule and now he starts school at 845AM instead of 750AM. What does it have to do for this blog?
Well, I get one extra hour in the morning! Today was the first day so I went out and ran a mile. I walk frequently but ran today after few months!

Yesterday I walked 1.5 miles at work.

I know you are wondering why I am so punctual in posting my walks/runs on this blog? Well, after joining this blog, I started a blog of mine on blogger.com/blogspot.com. So currently I am visiting blogspot.com regularly....and so there are regular posts from me.

Walked 5 miles this weekend.

Walked 3 miles on Saturday morning. Plus 2 miles in the evening with Arian in the stroller.

The above map shows last lag of my quick and favorite walk in Westlake- around 3 miles round-trip and gives 300 feet or so elevation gain. A good alternate when there is no body to accompany on hiking! Gets heart pumping in few minutes.

6 miles Hiking on Mishe Mowka trail

This is one of the most beautiful hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains. Highlights include the spectacular Echo Cliffs where rock climbers ascend shear cliffs, a house sized boulder delicately balanced on a small rock beneath, a giant split rock where kids can dash between the sheer walls, stunning giant sandstone formations, and breathtaking views from the top of Sandstone Peak and Inspiration point.
